Palliative Care AOC

The palliative care track is designed for residents interested in enhanced experience developing skills to evaluate a patient’s physical needs and need for psychological & spiritual support while dealing with serious illness.

They will also learn how to help with social and family adjustments and how to coordinate resources.  Focus will be on developing skills to help patients with:

  • Uncontrolled pain

  • Symptoms that aren’t responding to treatment

  • Severe nausea or vomiting

  • Shortness of breath

  • Psychological distress (anxiety, agitation, emotional or spiritual anguish)

  • Uncertainty about health-care decisions, quality of life or progress of disease

Residents will complete an elective in palliative care, attend palliative care grand rounds and a national conference, organize a journal club, and develop a presentation on a selected palliative care topic.
