Addiction Medicine

Tarek Haidar, MD

Tarek (he/him) grew up in Damascus, Syria before moving to Quebec where he completed his undergraduate studies and obtained a dual degree in biology and French studies and a minor in theology.

He attended medical school at Trinity School of Medicine in Saint Vincent and proceeded to successfully complete residency training in family medicine (with additional certification in integrative medicine) at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

Tarek’s next endeavor was beginning the addiction medicine fellowship at Swedish Medical Center. He is interested in specialized LGBTQ+ addiction treatment and correctional health. In his free time, Tarek enjoys cooking, traveling, socializing, and sketching.

Joanna Poceta, MD

Joanna (she/her) was born and raised in Encinitas, California, and lived in Rhode Island, San Francisco, and Washington, DC before moving back to the West Coast for family medicine residency at Swedish First Hill in Seattle. Her background prior to pursuing medical school was in philosophy, and she then spent a few years doing community organizing work around harm reduction and access to HIV and hepatitis C testing and treatment.

Joanna has always seen the practice of medicine as a way to involve herself in the community she lives in, and family medicine—and addiction medicine in particular—is where she has continually been inspired by colleagues who have incredible energy for advocacy, community, and patient-centered care.

Outside of work, Joanna is usually reading a novel, backpacking, learning to backcountry ski, or hanging out on a dock at Lake Washington.

Yuina Satoh, DO

Yuina was born in Japan and grew up moving back and forth between Japan and the US. She completed her undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley in biology and philosophy and then went on to pursue her passion for circus arts, training and performing as an aerial straps artist. Eventually, she made her way into medicine and completed medical school at Rocky Vista University in Colorado and family medicine residency at Puyallup Tribal Health Authority in Tacoma, Washington.

Yuina loves everything about primary care, from the broad scope of practice to the continuity of care in caring for pregnant patients, their children, and their grandparents. Her particular interests are in women’s health and addiction medicine, and she is excited to be learning more about the field as a fellow at the Swedish Addiction Medicine Program.
